You most likely already know Indiegogo — being a crowd funding site, you can expect to find great ideas that are just about to emerge from the market (given, of course, that many people will support it). Every once in a while we’ll have a look at some of the most interesting finds.
Complement Your Home
The main idea of the Nepsu wireless speaker is its shockingly simple and highly customizable design – you can choose from different colors of the triangle shaped case, the inner cloth and the front plate. Even the power cord can be chosen in either black or white. Whenever you change your room style, you can easily make your Triangle blend into it again by changing the magnetic front plate. The Nepsu website and press kit give a few very nice design options.
There are three main options to use the Nepsu Triangle speaker in your room: it can be either hung “normally” on a wall or – due to its triangle shape – in a rooms’ corner with the included wall mount. Another option is to place it free standing on a surface – if you use the battery pack add-on (which is not included) you can use it even as portable device. However, the power supply, which can be wall-mount, too, comes with a 1.5m cord and a connectable extension of 2.5m, which should give some freedom in placing the speaker.
The Triangle features Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, DLNA and APTX technology, and also comes with a 3.5mm Aux In and a USB port. It also offers a microphone for phone calls. If you own two Triangles, you can establish a stereo sound pair. TV with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth can connect wirelessly with the speaker.
Unfortunately, 5.1 surround sound is not available in the first version of the Triangle but it is planned to implement this in the future. The first focus is to make the currently presented features work perfectly. Updates for the Triangle firmware will be done either via Wi-Fi or USB.
The Triangle app that will come for iOS and Android is still under construction at the moment – but of course, it will be aside from intuitive and user-friendly also be an “aesthetically pleasant one” according to the website. It will offer the Multiroom feature which enables you to choose individual music for each room or Triangle, up to five rooms max.
Nepsu states that they will use high quality audio components for a crisp and rich sound. However, it will also make a difference in your overall sound experience, if you hang the speaker or if it is placed on a table. Anyways, the low-end of the Nepsu Triangle’s frequency response has a flat response (+/- 3dB) from 60Hz to 20kHz.
One thing we really like about Nepsu is that they care about the environment. They want to establish a responsible consumption for electronic products and so it’s no surprise that they tried to give the Triangle a low carbon footprint by using a new, award-winning and recyclable fiber composite (“UPM Formi”) which consists 50/50 of plastic and wood. Also they put a stress on quality, testing every unit electrically, functionally and acoustically before shipping.
The campaign of the 2013 founded Canadian company just ended on July 9th and completed successfully with 104% – the first shipments are said to be delivered in October 2016.
We like the overall impression of this product, starting with a diverse team, a “green” approach and of course the awesome design and versatility. If now the final product holds water regarding the sound quality, we’ll be all happy campers (and I will hate myself personally for not taking advantage of an early bird offer).
